What is a certificate of good standing?
The largest question cluster we have measured, about 34,480 searches a month across 260 wordings. Most people meet the term the same way, in an email from a bank or a lender, and the thing they are being asked for does not have the same name in every state.
Nobody looks this up out of curiosity. It arrives as a requirement: a bank opening an account, a lender before closing, a state you are registering into as a foreign entity, sometimes a landlord or a payment processor. There is usually a deadline attached, which is why the search volume is enormous and the intent is narrow.
The complication is that the certificate does not have one name. Ask for a certificate of good standing in some states and you will be handed exactly that. Ask in others and the thing that satisfies your bank is filed under a different name entirely, issued by a different agency, and priced differently.
